Mary joined Burness Communications in 2000, bringing a mix of experience in journalism, publishing, consulting, and public relations. She has been involved in writing, promotion, media training, and project management for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Foundation for Child Development, the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, the Hastings Center, and AcademyHealth, among others. Her areas of interest include health care quality and financing, health information technology, Medicare, and child health.

For four years, she worked as an independent consultant, providing writing and editorial services for a variety of health care organizations. A former newspaper reporter, Mary also worked as a press secretary for U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, and as a managing editor at two health care publishing companies. Mary earned her B.A. from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. She is working on writing a mystery novel in her spare time.
